Bobby Poulter hopes to punch his ticket to the UFC at Unified 63

TORONTO — Bobby Poulter is out to prove he’s Canada’s best fighter at 170 pounds.

In the Main Event of Unified 63 on Sept. 26 at the legendary REBEL Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Poulter challenges Mac Laursen for the vacant Unified MMA Canadian Welterweight Title, LIVE worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.

“I’m the best welterweight in Canada right now,” Poulter says ahead of his highly anticipated title fight in Toronto.

“I’m the closest to reaching (the UFC). As much as I believe that myself, I know a great performance next weekend will solidify that.”

Poulter is 7-2 in his first nine professional MMA bouts, with all but two of his victories coming by stoppage. He brings a three-fight winning streak into Unified 63, most recently stopping Contender Series vet Mohamed Ado in the third round of their Co-Main Event clash at Unified 62 at REBEL in May.

Poulter grew up playing sports but didn’t begin his martial arts journey until he turned 18. He fell in love with MMA during his first training session. A decade later, the 28-year-old Thunder Bay, ON product is competing for his first national championship.

“That belt will mean everything,” he says.

“At first, I tried to not put too much emphasis on it, but it’s a dream come true — a dream that I’ve been working towards for 10 years. It’s a testament to how far I’ve come in the sport and as a person. It will mean the world to me internally.”

Poulter’s matchup with the dynamic and experienced Laursen is undeniably the biggest opportunity of his career. He’s ready to rise to the occasion in Toronto, believing that a third straight finish in the cage will spring him to the UFC.

“I don’t see why not,” he says with a smile.

“Coming off a TKO win over a Contender Series vet and then going out there and taking out another top Canadian, I don’t know who else would be in front of me in that line.”
