Christmas is coming early for Hunter Lee at Unified 65

EDMONTON — Christmas is coming early for Hunter Lee.

On Friday, the fast-rising Saskatoon, SK product returns to the MMA cage for the fourth time this year against Ricardo Chavez in the Main Event of Unified 65 at the legendary River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton, AB.

Like a kid on Christmas Eve, Lee is counting down the minutes until fight night.

“I’m definitely excited,” the fast-rising, 26-year-old contender says.

“My opponent has a lot of fights, and he always shows up. He’s fought over 50 times, so he’s very experienced, and I’ve been saying that I want to fight guys with a lot of experience on my way to the UFC.

“Fighting somebody with a lot of experience is going to help a lot in terms of my development as a fighter, and I can’t wait for Friday.”

The province of Saskatchewan has only been home to one UFC fighter — Mitch Clarke, who also serves as a Commentator on Unified MMA broadcasts. Clarke, a seven-time UFC vet, inadvertently played a major role in Lee’s eventual transition from wrestling to MMA.

“I went to one of his seminars in Saskatoon when I was about 13, and that was my first real, hands-on look into MMA,” says Lee, who was a U SPORTS National Champion as a member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies wrestling team.

Now, Lee is leading the charge for Saskatchewan MMA. He hopes to become the first Saskatchewan-based fighter to win a Unified MMA Canadian National Championship before becoming his province’s second fighter in the UFC — ideally before next Christmas.

“I’d like to fight six times in 2026 and be 10-1 by the end of next year. I think that would put me in a really good position to get signed by the UFC,” he says.

“My goal is to be the best fighter in the world,” he adds, “and getting to the UFC is a big step towards that.”
