Cody Chovancek vows to keep the belt in Canada at Unified 57
May 20, 2024
TORONTO — Cody Chovancek has dreamt for ages about what’s waiting for him in the Main Event of Unified 57 in Toronto.
On June 14 under the bright lights of the iconic Rebel Entertainment Complex, the undefeated Niagara Top Team product challenges Gage Gill for the vacant Unified MMA Canadian Bantamweight Championship, LIVE worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.
Chovancek and Gill are both 25 years old and boast identical 6-0 professional records in the cage. Gill, who hails from Paulina, LA, has finished all of his opponents in the first round. Chovancek is hunting for his fifth stoppage victory.
“This is a huge fight for Canadian MMA. I’m going to represent, and we’re keeping the belt in Canada. It’s going to be a great fight for the fans,” Chovancek says.
“I’ve been dreaming about the day that I earn my first professional belt,” he adds. “It’s going to mean the world to me and my supporters. I keep visualizing hanging that belt in the gym.”
Chovancek is preparing for 25 grueling minutes of battle in the Unified 57 Main Event, but he sees himself taking out Gage in either the first or second round. He knows that another impressive performance on Canada’s Ultimate Proving Ground could land him a life-changing contract offer from UFC President Dana White, who was in attendance at Unified’s most recent showcase event in Toronto.
“I’m manifesting that I’ll get the call for Contender Series this year,” he says. “But first I’m going to take this guy out.”
