Menad “The Boss” Abella: “I’m going to make Shane Campbell suffer!”

Feb 17, 2019

EDMONTON — Menad “The Boss” Abella makes his long-awaited return to the Unified MMA cage at Unified 36 on March 1, when he challenges the champ Shane “Shaolin” Campbell for our Lightweight Title at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB. Before that, the fast-rising 155-pound contender spoke with Ed Kapp.

Is this a fight you’ve wanted for a while?

This fight was inevitable if Shane wanted to remain champion. I’ve been coming after the belt for a while. It’s Shane right now, but I’d take out whoever has the belt.

Has it always been your goal to get the Unified Lightweight Championship

I’m going to get all of them (laughs)!

What does that mean to you as a fighter — are belts important to you, or is it just a part of a bigger picture?

That’s a tough question. It’s just a part of my journey, I guess you could say, but I really appreciate the opportunity along the way.

What does Shane Campbell do well as a fighter? What are you thinking about as you get ready to enter the cage?

I’m going in there ready for anything. I’m ready to put him away anywhere the fight goes, and I’m ready to go a full five rounds, if necessary. Whatever he brings to the table, I’m ready for it. He’s going to eat his words. That’s it.

Has he ever fought anyone like you?

I don’t think so. I don’t think so. I have a weird style. I push the pace differently. My fight IQ is too high for him.

What’s the most likely outcome for this fight?

I can’t really tell you. Only God knows. But I’m going in there to make him suffer. I’m going in there with really mean intentions.

If Shane is reading this article, what would you like to tell him?

Just show up.
