Mohamed Ado was humbled by Unified 58 victory

EDMONTON — A win is a win, but don’t tell that to Mohamed Ado.

On Friday, the Niger-born Ottawa fighter improved to 5-0 with a first-round submission victory over Abdul Fayzi at Unified 58 at the sold-out River Cree Resort & Casino in Edmonton, AB, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

The victory didn’t come easy. Ado, 24, was taken down multiple times by Fayzi. At one point it appeared Fayzi was just a few seconds away from ending Ado’s unbeaten streak with a deep submission attempt.

“Friday night was a very humbling experience,” Ado says in retrospect. “I’m fortunate to get the win, but I’m not at all happy with my performance, and overall it left a bad taste in my mouth.”

Ado takes solace from the fact that he was able to persevere when his back was against the wall, but he’s already back to training.

“I’m glad I got the win, but it goes to show that I’ve got a lot of room for improvement, which is what I’ll be working on now,” Ado says.

“It’s not my best performance, but I’m glad that I’m still taking on the biggest challenges available to me. I’m not looking for easy wins; I’m glad that I’m able to pass the tests that have been put in front of me.”
