Ramil Kamilov on Unified 58 Main Event: “As Big As It Gets”

May 11, 2024

EDMONTON — The Main Event of Unified 58 – Ramil “Mr. Real Deal” Kamilov versus Tom “Big Nasty” O’Connor – could easily take place on a UFC card.

Kamilov (7-0) and O’Connor (13-2) are widely regarded as the two best lightweights in Canada not under contract with the UFC, and they’ll throw down on June 14 at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

It’s the perfect Main Event to cap off June 14’s historic Unified National, which features back-to-back events in a single night at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto and River Cree, all LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“This is as big as it gets,” Kamilov says.

“I think everyone knows that this is the biggest fight in Canada right now – the biggest fight that they could’ve made in the country.”

A life-changing UFC contract is almost guaranteed to the winner of this must-see fight, but Kamilov isn’t feeling the pressure. He’s been preparing for opportunities like this for years.

“This is just another fight for me, and I think this is a really good matchup for me,” Kamilov says.

“(My confidence) comes from my fighting experience and it comes from the work that I put in, the lifestyle that I live. I don’t take any shortcuts, I always push myself, and I’m always grinding it out when things get ugly.”

Kamilov is gunning for his seventh stoppage victory against O’Connor. He believes he’s the more dangerous fighter, and he’s ready to prove it. One thing is certain, Kamilov says – this will be the victory that springs him to the UFC.

“Absolutely,” he says. “One-hundred percent.”
