Unbeaten Liam Macfadyen is ready to turn heads at Unified 59

Sep 27, 2024

TORONTO — It should come as no surprise that Liam Macfadyen has quickly established himself as one of the top young fighters in Canada.

“My parents were both high-level martial artists; my mom was an Olympic coach and World Champion in judo. My uncles were both high-level athletes in judo and wrestling as well,” Macfadyen says.

“I come from a family of martial artists, and I’ve just followed in their path.”

Macfadyen has been training in judo since he could walk. As a teen, he branched out into Muay Thai, sambo, jiu-jitsu and wrestling, with the intention of eventually transitioning fully into MMA.

Flash forward a few years, the 26-year-old Ottawa, ON product is now unbeaten in his first two professional MMA bouts. He plans on winning a Unified MMA Canadian Championship in 2025, and then taking his talents to the UFC’s Octagon. But first, he returns to action at Unified 59 on Oct. 4 at the iconic Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto, LIVE worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.

Macfadyen is ready to make another statement on Canada’s Ultimate Proving Ground.

“I see this being an exciting fight,” he says.

“I’m going to put the pace on him, and not let him get any free shots. I’m not going to let him get comfortable, whether it’s on the feet or the ground. I’m going to make it an exciting fight because I’m going to be pushing for the finish right away.”
