Andrew Mavridis | Unified MMA Prospect Showcase

Oct 17, 2021

EDMONTON — Andrew Mavridis was 15 when his whole life changed.

“That’s when I first saw MMA on TV and I fell in love with the sport immediately,” the Lloydminster fighter says. “I started training when I was 24, and I haven’t looked back since then.”

In the six years since he began training, Mavridis has established himself as one of the top young prospects in Canada. After an 8-0 amateur career, Mavridis looks to improve to 2-1 in the Unified MMA cage when he takes on fellow top prospect Jett Grande at Unified 42 on Dec. 17 at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“I just love that you’re always improving in this sport, there’s always something that you can get better at; there’s no end, for even the best fighters on the planet,” Mavridis says. “I think what’s kept me in the sport is that I enjoy testing myself. It’s a lot of fun in the cage, sure, but I love testing myself and getting better.”

Mavridis’ opponent at Unified 42, former World Amateur Champion Jett Grande, is his toughest test yet.

“Jett is a tough, young stud, and that’s exactly the kind of opponent I want to fight,” Mavridis says. “My coach says he knew that our paths would cross eventually. I want to prove that I’m not a stepping stone and I shouldn’t be the underdog anymore.”

Mavridis’ prediction?

“Fireworks,” he offers, smiling.

“I’d like to keep the fight standing and put on an unforgettable show for the fans. It’s not just important for me to get the win, it’s really important for me to entertain.”
