Mateo Vogel: “I’m The Best Featherweight In Canada”

Jan 26, 2024

TORONTO – Mateo “Carrapato” Vogel made a statement at Unified 55 by winning the Unified MMA Canadian Featherweight Championship.

“I’m the best featherweight in Canada,” the 27-year-old Ottawa product says after dethroning John “The Dragon” Nguyen at the sold-out Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“It feels good to be in the No. 1 spot. It feels like it was meant to be. I always knew that it was going to happen down the path that I’m on.”

With the victory, Vogel upped his record to 9-3. Vogel’s path could lead next to a title defense, another opportunity on Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas, or a contract offer from the UFC. With the Unified MMA belt around his waist, he’s ready for anything.

“I’m on a 90-day suspension, so I’m going to be focusing on building my skills and technical training until I’m ready to jump back in there,” he says. “I don’t think I showed any holes in my game in Toronto, but I’m just going to keep on working so I’m ready for whatever opportunity comes up next.”
