Bhullar, Dwyer compete for the crown in battle of top Canadians at Unified 38

EDMONTON — Top Canadian contenders KB “The Bengal” Bhullar and Matt Dwyer will battle for the vacant Unified MMA Middleweight Championship in the main event of Unified 38 on Sept. 27 at beautiful River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB.

Bhullar boasts a spotless 7-0 record, with his three most recent victories coming via first-round stoppage. Dwyer, meanwhile, is a four-time UFC vet with an impressive 11-5 record. He holds notable victories over UFC vets Jesse Ronson, Dom Steele and Shonie Carter, and took home a UFC Performance of the Night bonus with a first-round KO win at UFC Fight Night 61.

Both fighters accepted this match immediately. Both are hungry to stake their claim as Canada’s top middleweight by fighting for the championship that was vacated by long-time champ Teddy Ash ahead of his upcoming bout on Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas.

“If I’m to earn the title of being the Unified Middleweight Champion, I want it to mean something,” says Bhullar. “Fighting a highly skilled fighter such as Matt Dwyer keeps the integrity of the title in place. It’s an honour to fight him, but I’m going to do everything in my power to reign victorious on fight day.”

Good luck with that, says Dwyer.

“I’m really excited to fight for the Unified belt; it’s a prestigious belt and it proves that I’m one of the top middleweights in the country. As for my opponent, he’s a tough, undefeated fighter. But I’m going to show him that he’s never fought anyone like me before. There are levels to this game.”

Adds Unified MMA Director of Communications Ed Kapp, “Our main focus, as it has been for the last decade, is to always strive to promote the most competitive, exciting and important fights in Canada. This is one of the best bouts we’ve had the pleasure of booking, and we can’t wait until the cage door locks and a new Unified MMA Middleweight Champion is crowned!”
