Chris Larsen defends Canadian Heavyweight Championship in Unified 46 headliner
Sep 9, 2022
EDMONTON – Only one of Chris Larsen’s nine fights has gone to the second round.
That’s no coincidence, the defending Unified MMA Canadian Heavyweight Champion said.
“I’ve always been confident in my power; I don’t think there are many fighters at this level who can match me in that,” Larsen said on the eve of his next title defense against Jamelle Jones in the Main Event of Unified 46 on Sept. 23 at River Cree Resort & Casino, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.
Larsen, a former high-level wrestler, originally transitioned to MMA to have some fun in the cage. He’s since established himself as one of the best heavyweight fighters in Canada. His impressive 7-2 record includes five knockouts and a pair of submissions. His two most recent fights lasted a combined 105 seconds.
Larsen is quick to praise his opponent Jones, a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter, Dana White’s Contender Series, Bellator and Pro Fight League. Jones’ 12-8 record includes eight KOs and two submissions. Larsen says the margin of error is “razor thin” at the level of a heavyweight contest.
Still, Larsen predicts another finish, another boost to his fighting career.
“A TKO in the early rounds wouldn’t surprise anyone, I don’t think,” Larsen said, adding, “By no means am I treating Jones as a stepping stone, but overcoming an opponent of his caliber will definitely push me into a different category of fighter.”
