Christian Larsen Goes for Gold at Unified 38

EDMONTON — Christian Larsen is ready for the biggest fight of his life. The heavy-handed big man battles Jared Kilkenny in a rematch for the Unified MMA Heavyweight Championship at Unified 38 on Sept. 27 at River Cree Resort Casino in Enoch, AB. Larsen is looking for a shot at redemption over Kilkenny, the victor in their first bout, and to take home the heavyweight belt, which was recently vacated by long-time champ Tanner Boser upon his signing with the UFC. Before that, he spoke with Unified MMA’s Ed Kapp.
What did you take away from your fight with Tyler King?
His head.
Was there any hesitation to accept this fight, or have you wanted this rematch for a while?
I’ve been wanting this fight for a while, the rematch is needed. The fact that it’s for a title makes it even better
How will this fight be different than the first meeting?
I had very little experience walking into the ring our first fight. I wasn’t able to stay composed and made stupid mistakes. Kilkenny is a tough opponent, but I know what I’m capable of and I’m going to bring it.
What’s the most likely outcome for this fight?
KO or ref stoppage in the early rounds. Nobody sees this fight going the distance.
How will it feel to have the belt wrapped around your waist?
I’m looking forward to getting some hardware. Everyone on our team has the ability to win a belt and I’m not going to be left behind.
Does fighting for a belt that was recently vacated by your friend and training partner, especially under his circumstances, make this bout more special?
Absolutely. Tanner is the one who got me started in the sport. I owe that guy everything and to see how much growth there’s been these last few years is insane. Fighting for his belt is an honour.
Where would you like to be one year from now as a fighter?
I’m 32 now. Bit late in the game to start thinking of turning this into a career. That being said, I’m having a blast and I’m going to stick with it for as long as I can. A year from now hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to take some heads off on other continents. Preferably somewhere warm.
