Garret “Nasty” Nybakken says goodbye at Unified 35

Nov 23, 2018

EDMONTON — Win, lose or draw, Garret “Nasty” Nybakken is hanging up his gloves after Unified 35 on Dec. 7 at River Cree Resort & Casino.

After nearly 10 years in the game and 21 professional fights, the former Unified MMA champion is officially walking away from the sport.

“It’s definitely a tough decision,” 37-year-old Edmonton product says, “but I’ve got so much great stuff going on with my personal life and at my day job that I’m not able to devote enough time to competing at a high level.

“It’s bittersweet,” he adds,” but I’m making the right decision and am leaving on my own terms.”

Nybakken made his professional debut in 2010. After earning just six wins in his first 12 fights, “Nasty” turned his career around in a major way in 2015 with five straight stoppage victories. Nybakken may be best known for his back-to-back finishes over Aaron Bosiak in their Unified MMA Lightweight Championship bouts in 2016.

“I’m pretty proud of what I’ve accomplished in the sport, and I’m looking forward to putting an exclamation point on my career at Unified 35.”

Tickets for Unified 35 on Dec. 7 at River Cree Resort & Casino, featuring three Unified MMA championship bouts, are on sale now.
