Ghulam, Marques set to clash at #Unified25

EDMONTON — Parwez Ghulam hates being called the former #UnifiedMMA featherweight champion.
Ghulam was dethroned by Sabah Fadai earlier this year. But luckily for Ghulam, he has the opportunity to take a big step closer to reclaiming division supremacy at #Unified25, December 18 in Edmonton.
But standing in his way is red-hot Blacksheep MMA featherweight Bruno Marques, who’s punched his way to first-round TKO stoppages in both of his trips to the Unified MMA cage this year.
“I really like to strike, but I’m always working on my ground game. I’m a complete mixed martial artist,” the Fort McMurray fighter says. “This is a huge opportunity for me, and I’m not going to leave anything on the line when the cage door locks.”
Ghulam, who hasn’t been to a decision in his five-year career, is determined to ultimately reclaim his title. But he insists he isn’t looking past Marques, who finished his past two opponents in less than a combined four minutes.
“Apparently he’s supposed to be a good striker, but I don’t think he’s a good striker. I think I’m better than him everywhere the fight goes,” Ghulam says.
“I want to get a title shot after this or another fight, but I’m focused on this event right now,” the Complete Fitness and Martial Arts product says. “And I’m really confident I’m going to beat this guy. I’m just focused on this fight right now.”
Marques isn’t looking past December 18 either.
“A win pushes me forward a huge step in my career, and I don’t think about anything else,” Marques says. “A win in December is everything for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to get in that cage and show everybody what I’ve been working so hard at.”
