NYBAKKEN, BOSER CLOSE OUT #UNIFIED27 WITH TITLE WINS

EDMONTON — Friday was kind to Garret “Nasty” Nybakken and Tanner “Bulldozer” Boser.

Nybakken and Boser won the #UnifiedMMA Lightweight Championship and Heavyweight Championship, respectively, on the weekend at #Unified27 in Edmonton.

To close out the action Friday night in front of a capacity crowd, Nybakken picked up the biggest win of his career with a first-round stoppage in his hometown over the previously unbeaten Aaron Bosiak.

“It felt amazing to have that belt wrapped around my waist. I had so many supporters at the fight, and I was ready to die in the cage to put on a show for them and bring this belt home,” Nybakken, a winner of four straight, says with a big smile.

“I always want to put on the best show possible, and on Friday I was able to go out there and make it happen quickly, which is a great feeling.”

The Unified MMA Lightweight Championship is the first of the well-rounded fighter’s career — and he’s excited to defend it before the year ends.

“I’m back to training right away to get better, but I’m taking it one step at a time and taking a bit of time to reflect on this win,” Nybakken says. “But later this year I’m going to defend my title, and I’m looking to put on another show for Unified MMA.”

Right before Nybakken took out Bosiak in the final bout of the night, Boser reclaimed the Unified MMA Heavyweight Championship belt with a high-paced, five-round victory over former titlist Tony Lopez.

“It feels great. It took me a little while, but I got the Unified MMA belt back — and I’m pretty damn happy about that,” says Boser, who first held the crown in 2014-15. “Did I know I was going to get my belt back? I wouldn’t say that, but I thought it was really just a matter of time.”

The Unified MMA Heavyweight Championship belt, the man fans call “Bulldozer” says, is special.

“I’ve fought with Unified MMA for most of my career and most of my supporters have been with me here every step of the way,” Boser says. “This belt is a representation of all the people who have been with me the whole time I’ve been here. I love how the belt looks and I love having it, but it’s really for them, at the end of the day.”

Now 10-2 and firmly established as Canada’s most dangerous and exciting heavyweight, Boser is excited to get back in the cage again soon.

“I’ve cleaned out Canada — I’m really excited to see who Unified MMA has me defend my title against,” Boser says with a laugh. “I want the toughest guy available, and I’m going to put on another show.”

Earlier on the card, only one fight wasn’t decided by stoppage — an action-packed unanimous decision win for Nick “The Savage” Hrabec over Justin Nanaquawetung, which drew massive roars of approval from the crowd.

Before big stoppage wins by Menad Abella, Teddy Ash and Mike Scarcello, submission specialist Mike Hay stole the show early with an air-tight, lightening-quick armbar over Billy Marsh.
