ROAD TO #UNIFIEDMMA GOLD RUNS THROUGH #UNIFIED26

Feb 12, 2016

EDMONTON — Garret Nybakken knows he’s in for a good, old-fashioned scrap when he clashes with Justin Nanaquawetung at #Unified26, March 4 in Edmonton.

“I’ve been putting in a lot of hard work, and I’m going to go out there and put it on this kid the same I always do,” says Nybakken, who come Fight Night will be entering the cage for the 16th time.

“The one thing he’s got going is a brawler style,” Nybakken says of Nanaquawetung, who scored three first-round finishes before most recently falling to Matt Spisak at #Unified25. “He throws looping punches from weird angles, and he’s going to swing as hard as he can.”

Should fans be in store for a brawl?

“Yeah, basically,” Nanaquawetung offers with a laugh. “I’m going to be coming out of my corner fighting.”

That being said, Nybakken is ready to rise to the occasion when the #UnifiedMMA cage door locks March 4.

“I’m always ready to rumble,” he says, smiling.

Although Nybakken isn’t looking past Nanaquawetung, he couldn’t help but smile when asked about possibly fighting unbeaten Edmonton product Aaron Bosiak for the inaugural Unified MMA Lightweight Championship at #Unified27 on May 13 in Edmonton.

“I think that would be great,” Nybakken says with another big grin. “If I get that fight, Aaron better train hard, because I’m always looking to turn heads and make statements when I fight.”

Just who does Nybakken think would win that potential championship bout?

“Me,” he says matter-of-factly. “Obviously.”

On the other end, Nanaquawetung would love a shot at the Unified MMA Lightweight Championship too.

“Absolutely,” he says. “It has nothing to do with Aaron; a title should be the dream of everybody — to fight the best guys and come out on top, you know? If that’s Aaron, it would be an honour to fight him … It would be very exciting for the fans.”
