Shane Campbell Optimistic After “Rather Perfect” Win at Unified 42

Dec 22, 2021

EDMONTON – Shane Campbell says Unified 42 is a job well done.

At the sold-out event Friday, Campbell dispatched top European contender Hubert Geven (13-3) back to The Netherlands with a second-round TKO in the Co-Main Event at River Cree Resort & Casino on UFC Fight Pass.

Campbell is often his own harshest critic, but that wasn’t necessary this weekend.

“I think it went rather perfect,” Campbell says with a laugh. “I got the finish, I was unscathed, so there’s not much more that I can ask for. Maybe the finish could’ve been more fit for my highlight reel, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? There’s not many people who will even get in the cage with me.”

Campbell is now 9-2 since parting ways with the UFC. His TKO on Friday was good for the Unified MMA Champion’s fourth straight victory.

“There’s a good chance in the next couple days that I get the call up to the UFC,” Campbell says. “Now that the world is opening up more, there’s going to be more opportunities. I’ve been calling everyone out, so hopefully they are willing to step up now.”

As any Canadian MMA fan can attest to, Campbell is a whole different fighter than when he was competing in the UFC in 2015 and 2016. “Shaolin” agrees and isn’t surprised.

“I was dangerous the entire time, but if I’m more dangerous now, it’s because I’m even more focused,” the 33-year-old fighter says. “When I was in the UFC, I was just happy go lucky, just doing my thing. Now it’s more in my head that any loss is so much more detrimental.

“I’m running out of time. At this point there’s no second chances.”
