Shane “Shaolin” Campbell eyes 5th straight win in Unified 43 Main Event

EDMONTON – Shane “Shaolin” Campbell has several goals at this stage in his career. But one stands above the rest.

Campbell wants to re-sign with the UFC.

“Shaolin” was with the world’s leading promotion in 2015 and 2016. After five trips to the world-famous Octagon, Campbell parted ways with the UFC. Since then Campbell has won nine of his 11 fights, including his last four.

At Unified 43 on March 4, “Shaolin” takes on fellow UFC vet Kyle “Killshot” Prepolec, who’s 1-0 since parting ways with the big show, in the Main Event at the SOLD-OUT River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“This is a fair matchup for me, and it’s going to be a fun matchup for the crowd as well,” Campbell (19-8) says of his bout with Prepolec (15-7). “I’m quite excited about this fight. Another big name for the resume is a huge draw for me.”

If Campbell hopes to return to the UFC, it’s crucial that he defeats Prepolec. At 34, he knows he’s on the clock, and a loss in March could derail his goal of once again representing Canada on the biggest stage of combat sports.

Still, Campbell has yet to turn down an opponent, and he isn’t interested in any easy assignments either. While a win would be more likely over an opponent less dangerous than Prepolec, that’s not what Campbell wants.

“With my last couple fights, I’ve been calling everyone out, so I can’t go back on my word,” Campbell says with a laugh. “Anybody who’s willing to fight me is who I’m going to take. I’m not going to make it back to the UFC taking easy fights.”

Campbell still believes he’ll sign with the UFC. But, if it ultimately isn’t in the cards, he insists he won’t be dissatisfied with his fighting career.

“I’ve accomplished much more in life than what was ever expected of me as a young guy,” Campbell says. “Very few people expected me to accomplish much in life at all, and in that way I’ve defied the odds.”
