Tom Theocharis hitting his stride in the cage

Oct 22, 2023

OTTAWA — Thirteen isn’t an unlucky number for Tom Theocharis.

After 13 professional bouts, the 30-year-old Toronto welterweight is entering the prime of his fighting career. Following a 15-second KO victory in his Unified MMA debut in June, “The Greek Warrior” goes for his third straight win against Mexico’s Roman Cordoba (11-11) at Unified 53 on Saturday at Shaw Centre in Ottawa, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“I’ve been through so many training camps, I’ve trained with the top professionals since the age of 17, and I feel like I’m finally hitting my stride as a professional athlete and mixed martial artist,” he says.

“I’m always looking to evolve – I’m constantly looking for ways to improve in all aspects of being a fighter and athlete, and that gives me a lot of confidence going into this fight.”

Theocharis’ record includes seven victories by KO and one win by submission. Nothing beats a finish, but Theocharis is prepared to put on a show for 15 solid minutes – especially on the heels of his 15-second summertime debut on Canada’s Ultimate Proving Ground.

“I’m not saying I’m not hoping for a 15-second knockout, but I’m not expecting that – I’m expecting a war,” Theocharis says.

“I’m expecting to break bones, I’m expecting to be bloodied and exhausted. I’m expecting that each fight is going to be grueling, and that’s how I train.”

Theocharis feels at home with Unified MMA, but he sees himself someday soon representing Canadian MMA in the UFC’s Octagon.

“I’m taking it one fight at a time, but as I stated previously, I’m finally hitting my stride as a fighter, so I could definitely see myself moving onto the UFC in 2024, 100-percent.”
