CALGARY – Unified MMA, Canada’s leading MMA promotion, returns to Calgary for a second time this week, with Unified 47 on Friday at the Genesis Centre, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass. As always, there’s no shortage of intrigue heading into Fight Night. Here are some of our favourite storylines for the action-packed event.

National Championship On The Line

In the highly anticipated Main Event, Maged Hammo (11-6-1) defends his Unified MMA Canadian Featherweight Championship against undefeated challenger Justin Basra (5-0). Hammo and Basra are two of Canada’s most dangerous featherweight contenders. Hammo has been on an absolute tear as he tries to improve to 3-0 with a third stoppage victory in the Unified MMA cage, while the hometown fighter Basra returns to action for the first time since 2018. The winner of this fight should surely earn an opportunity to compete in the UFC or Contender Series in Las Vegas in 2023.

International Battle In The Co-Main Event

It’s Canada versus the United States in Friday’s Co-Main Event as Lethbridge, AB’s Tom “Big Nasty” O’Connor welcomes Devon “Dangerous” Brock of Los Angeles to Canada’s Ultimate Proving Ground. O’Connor is 10-2 and one of Canada’s best prospects in the lightweight division. Brock, meanwhile, is 10-5 and quickly establishing himself as one of the United States’ top young fighters. The winner of this match earns international bragging rights, and will make a case for the next shot at the Unified MMA Canadian Lightweight Championship in 2023.

Fully Loaded On UFC Fight Pass

While Friday’s Main Event and Co-Main Event are rightfully getting the lion’s share of attention from fans, there’s much more to Unified 47 than the two final bouts of the night. Just a handful of other bouts that have fans talking is a super-welterweight clash between Ali Charkie (3-1) and Fay Bursell (5-2), a featherweight battle between John Nguyen (4-3) and Diego Santos (4-0), and a grudge match between unbeaten lightweight contenders Ramil Kamilov (3-0) and Sean Michael (3-0).
