Top Canadian contenders headline Unified 44 in Calgary

CALGARY – The Main Event and Co-Main Event are set for Unified MMA’s highly anticipated debut in Calgary, with Unified 44 on May 6 at Tsuut’ina Nation, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

In the Main Event, Noah “The Chosen Defender” Ali (10-5) takes on Gabe Sagman (7-4) for the vacant Unified MMA Bantamweight Championship. 

A professional since 2010, Ali brings a 10-5 record into battle after most recently defeating fellow top prospect Michael Hay via body-kick TKO at Unified 39. Seven of the Calgary product’s victories are by stoppage (five submissions, two knockouts). Sagman, meanwhile, tries to improve to 8-4 in his Unified MMA debut. The Hamilton, ON submission specialist eyes his third straight win, and fourth victory by submission, since making his pro debut in 2014.

In the Co-Main Event, Jesse “Big Cat” Arnett (18-8) and Tom “Big Nasty” O’Connor (9-2) meet in a battle of top Canadian featherweights making their debuts in the Unified MMA cage.

Arnett, a professional since 2011, has long been regarded as one of Canada’s most dangerous fighters. The Calgary fighter has 11 victories by submission and three wins by knockout. O’Connor, meanwhile, boasts a 9-2 record into May 6. He’s won eight of his past nine bouts, with seven wins by stoppage (four submissions, three knockouts) since his 2014 pro debut.
