Unbeaten Ramil Kamilov has been fighting his whole life

CALGARY – Ramil Kamilov only has three professional bouts on his record, but he’s been fighting his whole life.

“I had to fight a lot, and martial arts was a tool to help me fight,” says Kamilov, who practiced wrestling and taekwondo as a youngster in Kazakhstan.

“We also used to run street fight tournaments before MMA was a big thing, and I’d fight all the older kids.”

When Kamilov moved to Canada as a teen, he struggled to fit in, and even found himself on the streets battling homelessness.

But at the age of 15, he found the Champions Creed MMA academy in Calgary – and the rest is history.

“I really fell in love with the freedom of MMA. It was very fresh to me, and I really liked it,” Kamilov says. “It was also very different to be praised for my fighting, whereas before when I fought in Canada, I had the police called on me and I got a $500 ticket for fighting in public.

“It was very different.”

MMA has since gone from a hobby to a career for Kamilov, whose fourth professional fight is set for Dec. 2 at Unified 47 in Calgary. He’ll try to improve to 4-0 against fellow unbeaten Calgary lightweight Sean Michael (3-0) at the Genesis Centre, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.

“I want to win convincingly,” Kamilov says when asked about his upcoming fight, adding, “I know I can crush this guy.”
