Unified 42’s Five Biggest Storylines

Nov 30, 2021

EDMONTON — Unified MMA is ending 2021 with an exclamation point as Unified 42 goes down Dec. 17 at River Cree Resort & Casino in Enoch, AB, LIVE on UFC Fight Pass. This action-packed card is not short on intrigue, featuring many of Canada’s best fighters, world-class striking battles and an exciting slate of fast-rising prospects. Here are the five biggest storylines heading into fight night.

Canada’s Best Big Men Meet In The Middle

Canada’s best light-heavyweight, Graham Park, and one of the country’s most dangerous middleweights, Mariusz “The Iron Pol” Ksiazkiewicz, battle for the inaugural Unified MMA Super-Middleweight (195 pounds) Championship in the Main Event. Park, the defending Unified MMA Light-Heavyweight Champion, is 8-2 with five straight first-round finishes, while Ksiazkiewicz tries to improve to 9-1 after most recently fighting on Dana White’s Contender Series in Las Vegas.

Intercontinental Co-Main Event Battle

The most exciting lightweight in Canada, Shane “Shaolin” Campbell, defends his Unified MMA Lightweight Championship against top European lightweight contender Hubert “The Gipsy King” Geven in the Co-Main Event. This matchup is a true striking fan’s delight, as Campbell is 18-8 in MMA and 69-10 as a professional kickboxer, while Geven is 13-3 in MMA and 45-5-5 in kickboxing.

A Kickboxing Legend Enters The Cage

Speaking of world-class strikers, the greatest Canadian kickboxer of all time, Simon “The One” Marcus makes his highly anticipated MMA debut against Anton Tokarchuk in the super-middleweight division. Hailing from Toronto, Marcus is a former world champion under the Glory banner and holds notable victories over UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya, UFC standout Dustin Jacoby and kickboxing legend Joe Schilling. Standing across from Marcus is far from a stepping stone; former Unified MMA title challenger Anton Tokarchuk enters the cage for the 10th time as a professional on fight night.

“The Bengal” Is Back

Former Unified MMA Middleweight Champion KB “The Bengal” Bhullar returns to River Cree Resort & Casino for the second time since leaving the UFC as he takes on Quebec’s Strahinja “The Werewolf” Gavrilovic. Bhullar tries to climb to 6-0 in the Unified MMA cage while Gavrilovic is 8-5 heading into his Unified MMA debut. “The Werewolf” has dispatched three of his last four opponents by stoppage, with his lone loss since 2017 coming via split decision to UFC fighter Marc-André Barriault.

Prospects Galore

While Unified 42 is loaded with several of Canada’s most experienced and dangerous fighters, there are also several fast-rising prospects on the UFC Fight Pass broadcast. That list includes Cole Campbell (3-3), Chris Chapman (4-2), former IMAAF World Amateur Champion Jett Grande (1-0-1), former undefeated amateur standout Andrew Mavridis (1-1), Tyrell Giselbrecht (1-0) and Ramil Kamilov making his hotly anticipated pro debut.
